New Residence Homestead Exemption Application Requirements as of SEPTEMBER 1, 2011 |
|
Wednesday, 24 August 2011 |
A new Texas law effective September 1 imposes new requirements in order to apply for any of the several types of residential homestead exemptions. Applications filed on or after September 1 must include a copy of the applicant's Texas driver's license or DPS identification card, and a copy of the applicant's current vehicle registration receipt. Addresses on the driver's license or ID card and vehicle registration receipt must be the same as the address for which the homestead exemption application is being made.
If the applicant doesn't own a vehicle, a special affidavit and a copy of a current utility bill for the homestead address must be attached.
